Wild and Wandering Thoughts of a frizz-laden loon

Not goodbye, but...

Just a little note to say that any kind of blog-writing is going on hiatus for a while, mainly because I am far too busy to post and don't seem to even when I have time.

But this is not goodbye! I'll doubtless be back to post about Christmas/Mock results etc. Just don't expect anything regular. I will be back...just not very often...ciao!

Ye Gods, I haven't posted in a week! There again, there hasn't been much to post aboutl; revision, coursework, more revision, even more coursework, and the odd packet of crisps to interlude between all of them.

On the film front, though (which is a very prominent front), I managed to view The Constant Gardener after months of meaning to, and it is fantastic. Simply brilliant, especially the ending. Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz were so good! It was lodged in my head for days; even though I only managed to see it once.

And from watching it, I can really tell that the way I watch films has changedl; instead of paying attention to what's in them, I'm focusing on how everything in it is done; the camera techniques, the dialogue etc. Let's just hope I can put it to good use later on.

Also went to see To Kill a Mockingbird at the theatre with my drama class, but...meh...I wasn't massively impressed. It could've been done better, but there were some brilliant moments, like Bob Ewell spitting right in Atticus' face, for real as well. Urgh.

Ho hum. I've been revising most of today; both for History and for Maths, and call me nuts, but I really think I could do well in Maths. I'm feeling very confident...which is never a good sign. Whatever. If I got an A or A* in Maths, I would be jumping up and down and shrieking. It would be a final pay-out for all the times I've struggled with Maths over the years.

Anyway, am taking a break now. It's quarter to five and it's dark. I'm studiously avoiding going into town and being subjected to the decorations; if I hold off until December, then the build-up won't annoy me so much.

Farewell! Comment! Watch The Constant Gardener!

Just viewed the films Amélie and Anchorman.

...

The word "random" springs to mind. For both of them.

Honka honka.

That's it? That's bloody it???

Words cannot DESCRIBE how pissed off I am. What happened to the "unseen, bonus footage"? The new extras? Instead we have "A Groundbreaking Success", some new menus and a section on the Brokeback music. Oh, and a still gallery. We don't want a bloody still gallery! We want deleted scenes! Things we *haven't* seen before! Focus Features (or is it Universal?) have simply changed the artwork, bunged in a couple of half-arsed things to add to the original and have left it at that!

I know I'm fussing over something that you'll find boring; but it really matters to me. I was looking forward to seeing something MORE of the film that has driven me mad for nearly a year. Well, not even that. And we get this! There's no way I'm even going to BOTHER buying that.

Ugh.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Just finished reading Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks, and I don't think there's a coherent way to describe how it made me feel.

We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!

I'd forgotten how much I love this film. Every time Withnail says "Balls!" I just completely lose it. Brilliant!

Whoa.

OK, I was well aware that there is a famed "hippie scene" that no one else seems to have seen, but bloody hell, what the hell is happening in that picture?

Ahem. Hopefully it'll be on this supposed collectors' edition thing.

I hate Science.

I hate butter beans.

I hate all celebrities who have done NOTHING to deserve ANYTHING they have.

I hate The Girl Next Door.

I hate my hair.

Farewell. I'm pissed off.

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O, no! it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

- William Shakespeare

I'm putting this up here where I have easy access to it. It's just so good. I know no one will agree, but I'm a Shakespeare gal and an incurable romantic; it's my thing. So I like it a lot. Farewell!
